Absolutely. Most of my clients arrive with little or no Pilates experience, and many come to me precisely because group classes felt too fast or too generic. In a private session, everything is built around you from the very first minute, so there is no level to keep up with. We start where your body is today.
Your first session begins with a conversation. As a Registered Nurse, I take a proper movement and health history: any injuries, surgeries, diagnoses, or symptoms you live with, plus what you want to achieve. We then move through an initial assessment so I can see how your body moves, and you'll finish the session having already done some Pilates. From there, I design a personalised programme that we build on together.
Comfortable, fitted clothing you can move freely in, think leggings or joggers and a t-shirt. Grip socks are ideal for equipment work (I can point you towards good ones if you don't have any). All equipment is provided, including mats, so you just need to bring yourself and a water bottle.
Mat Pilates uses your own body weight and small props, while Reformer Pilates uses a spring-loaded machine that can both support and challenge your movement. The Reformer is wonderful for beginners and for anyone managing pain or injury, because the springs can assist a movement as easily as they can resist it. In my home studio I work with a range of equipment, including the Reformer, chair, and trapeze table, so your programme can use whatever suits your body best.
For most people, once or twice a week creates steady, noticeable progress, and this is why my session packs are designed around consistency. That said, the right frequency depends on your goals, your body, and your life, and it's something we'll discuss together in your first session.
